NASA's Simulator Puts All Eyes on Pluto
Released on 07/13/2015
[Voiceover] On Tuesday morning,
the New Horizons space probe will make its
historic flyby of Pluto.
But the probe will be so busy collecting data
that it can't send any back right away.
NASA's team knows exactly what New Horizons
will be doing tomorrow down to the second.
In this simulation, you can see
each instrument's planned view of the dwarf planet
and its five moons.
Allison Rex will keep an eye on the system's atmosphere
while two cameras take turns scanning the icy bodies.
Beginning around 7 a.m. Eastern Time,
New Horizons will start focusing in on Pluto,
scanning furiously as it gets closer and closer,
just under 8,000 miles at its nearest point.
Once it's done collecting,
New Horizons will get a chance
to beam some of that info back to Earth.
We'll be waiting!
