Snapchat has introduced Geostickers, enabling users to add city-specific stickers to their snaps.

The news comes just hours after Facebook-owned Instagram unveiled Snapchat-style Stories that self-destruct after 24 hours.

"Today we’re excited to introduce Geostickers! Geostickers are special stickers available in some of the biggest cities around the world — send them in Chat or stick them on Snaps!" Snapchat said in a blog post.

The new feature is initially being rolled out in 10 major cities including London, Paris and New York. The Geostickers will also be available to users in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Sydney, Honolulu, São Paulo and Riyadh.

There are 15 stickers already available in San Francisco, according to TechCrunch. Snapchat's blog post teases what appears to be a pizza rat sticker, presumably for New York.

Naturally, users need to have location services enabled on their mobile device in order to access the new feature.

Snapchat recently introduced the ability for users to send Bitmoji stickers to their friends, based on their likeness.

While Instagram's new self-destructing Stories are set to go head-to-head with Snapchat, they do not involve any kind of location-based filters or stickers.
