Best Fourth of July Mattress Deals

Bear

The Bear Elite Hybrid is something out of a luxury hotel—super supportive coils, specialized memory foams, and the option to add a cooling pillow top. But instead of a hotel, it’s in your house. It’s also our favorite mattress for combating back pain, as its use of zoned coils and softer memory foam gives your spine a helping hand. It's CertiPUR-US certified and GreenGuard Gold certified, too. This shows no dangerous chemicals were used in memory foam production, while the latter ensures no harmful fumes are coming from said foams. The Bear Elite Hybrid comes with free shipping, a 120-night sleep trial, and a limited lifetime warranty. Right now, you can get 35 percent off with the code JULY4. And I wouldn't wait too long, because it's usually 30 percent off—grab that extra 5 percent while you can!

Avocado

Like an avocado itself, this sale is good one minute and gone the next. It’s a good idea to pounce while the time is ripe, er, ripe. The Avocado Green mattress has the pressure relief that side sleepers need, along with a long list of organic material certifications. When I've previously tested it, I've always been impressed that the natural materials hold their own when it comes to keeping heat out and staving off tension around the body. Organic wool, cotton, latex, and recycled steel coils all play a part in repelling heat and allergens while amping up support—naturally. Avocado Green mattresses offer both a one-year sleep trial and a 25-year warranty, plus everyone’s favorite, free shipping. As part of Avocado's July 4 sales, you can save 15 percent sitewide, no code necessary. When the usual deal we've seen is 10 percent off, get this deal while it's fresh.

Helix

As someone who’s tested nearly every bed in Helix's fleet (there are 25 spread across the Core, Luxe, and Elite Collections, for context), I’ve got a few favorites, including the Helix Midnight Luxe, our top pick for the past few years thanks to its pressure-pain relief and lumbar support, and the Helix Dusk, which has a great medium-firm feel for back and stomach sleepers. All Helix mattresses come with free shipping, a 100-night sleep trial, and a limited lifetime warranty. For the Fourth, we’ve got something special to share: Use code WIRED27 for 27 percent off the entire site. Which, by the way, is the biggest discount we ever see these available for.

Birch

We aren't headed to a garden center for a birch tree for this one. The Birch mattress line by Helix takes the natural approach to constructing mattresses, with Global Organic Latex Standard latex, organic cotton, and pocketed coils. The Birch Luxe has a firmer feel that still shares the buoyant feel of latex (not to mention temperature regulating and pressure relieving as well), while the Birch Luxe Natural adds on a pillow top for increased softness. Now, for the sale: use code WIRED27 for 27 percent off site wide, and Birch will also throw in two free pillows to go along with your new bed. It's likely you won't see a deal this good for the rest of the year, because based on our records, 27 percent off is the lowest it's gone.

Nolah

Nolah took memory foam and helped evolve it into a proprietary version called Airfoam. This happens to be the star of the show for the Nolah's mattresses, particularly the Evolution (9/10, WIRED Recommends). By using Airfoam over the usual memory foam offerings, this hybrid was made to promote better spine alignment, pressure relief, cooling, and durability. You can pick from among three firmness options, but I’ve found in testing that luxury firm tends to be very accommodating for all sleeping positions. The lumbar support shines, and the pillow top stands on business with pressure relief. Nolah mattresses come with free shipping, a 120-night sleep trial, and a limited lifetime warranty. Right now you can get 35 percent off sitewide, plus use code WIRED50 for another $50 off mattresses.

Big Fig

Quippy brand names are the best, and Big Fig’s is derived from “bigger figure,” as this mattress is made for heavier sleepers. A common issue with standard mattresses is that they simply may not be supportive enough for sleepers with this body type. The Big Fig Classic can support up to 1,100 pounds of weight (just make sure your frame can too!) by way of foams and pocketed coils made to be extra durable. WIRED reviewer Martin Cizmar found that while the support was evident, there was a bit of sag happening in the middle. He likened it to a hammock sort of effect, which may work for some, but not for others. It’s a firmer feeling bed, but average weight sleepers may enjoy it just as much (based on my previous tests), particularly if you prefer resting on your stomach or back, or just like firmer beds. Big Fig mattresses are sent with free shipping, a 120-night sleep trial, and 20-year warranty. Use code FIREWORKS for 20 percent off your purchase.

Essentia

You're sticking to all things organic, and that includes your sleep routine. Essentia's organic mattresses build on materials like certified organic latex and cotton that prioritize aspects like cooling, pressure relief, and lumbar support. WIRED reviewer Molly Higgins tested the Tatami model, and found that these organic components really came through for keeping the spine supported while softly cushioning pressure points. Essentia mattresses come with free shipping, a 120-night sleep trial, and 20-year warranty. As for Fourth of July savings, you can take 25 percent off sitewide. But till the Fourth, Essentia will also throw in two free Harvest Cloud Pillows ($350 value) with any mattress purchase in a full, queen, king, or California king size bed.

Saatva

There are many things that creak in the night—your joints among them. For the sleepers who have just about had it with the lack of pressure relief their mattress is offering up, the Saatva RX was made for this scenario. As WIRED Reviewer Nena Farrell described her testing experience, the RX's softer surface really lent a helping hand for eliminating even the worst of her joint pain while lying on her side. She found it a bit too soft to help with spine alignment, which could cause overt sinking and issues for those with back pain. But overall, it was a supportive choice especially for side sleepers. Saatva is offering up to $400 off mattress purchases of $1,000 or more as part of its Fourth of July sales event. With promos usually around $300 off, here's a little extra sales momentum for you.

Leesa

Leesa's got a whole lineup of beds, but WIRED reviewer Martin Cizmar applauded the Sapira Chill Hybrid in particular for its propensity for cooling and cushioning. Based on his extended testing, the cover gave off a cool-to-the-touch feel, while foam layers hugged around his body to relieve pressure. For the Fourth, Leesa is offering 30 percent off sitewide on select mattresses. Sales usually run for 25 percent off, so hey, we'll take that extra 5 percent savings.

Plank Firm

Firm as a board, but mattress edition—the Plank Firm is one of (if not the) firmest mattresses out there that we've tested to date. WIRED reviewers Adrienne So and Nena Farrell found through their individual testing that this is the kind of firm support that lends itself to healthy spine alignment. The Plank Firm keeps weight from sinking in too far in just one area, and this even weight distribution helps to keep strain off the spine. If you deal with back pain on a nightly basis, you may want to take this Fourth of July sale into consideration. You can take 30 percent off sitewide with the code JULY30.

Best Early Fourth of July Bedding Deals

The Citizenry

The Citizenry makes some of our favorite sheets, from the best linen we've tried to fantastically soft (and organic!) cotton percale. The company's sheets are already well-priced for the great quality you're getting, but they're on sale for 20 percent off for the Fourth of July, making it one of the best times to buy.

Ettitude

I love Ettitude's super-soft bamboo sheets, especially as a hot sleeper who still wants soft bedding to sleep on. Usually, the best price is on Amazon rather than Ettitude's site. But right now Ettitude is running a summer sale for 25 percent off, so it's a great time to shop Ettitude's site. It's the perfect time to score your own gorgeously soft and breathable bamboo sheets, or Ettitude's take on linen with its Hemp+ sheets (currently on my bed as we speak!) at a discount. You'll see the discount automatically applied once the sheets are in your cart.

Brooklinen

Brooklinen makes a ton of great sheets and bedding, and some of our favorites are Brooklinen's organic percale sheets, down pillow, and down comforter. Truly, though, everything Brooklinen makes is a solid choice. And great news: all of those favorites (and many more options!) are on sale for the brand's Fourth of July sale, which has the entire site 20 percent off.

Cozy Earth

Honestly, everything Cozy Earth makes is legitimately cozy. Their bamboo bedsheets are no exception, and go from super chilly when you climb into bed to melted butter-level warm as you sleep. It's exceptional. I also can't stop using Cozy Earth's bathrobes after my shower—they're super soft too thanks to bamboo. Both of these and so much more are on sale with our custom code WIRED that will get you 35 percent off the entire site. But it's worth noting that Cozy Earth did raise its base prices, so it's not as good of a sale price as we used to see.
