The Best Mattresses for Sex
Featured in this article
This may come as a shock to some, but mattresses aren’t used solely for sleeping. As many sexually active people will tell you, the best mattress for sex lets you keep your mind off the bed itself and in the moment, as the last thing you want to be focusing on is a potential trip to the mattress store.
So, what exactly are the parameters that ensure a mattress is actually good for sex? As a professional mattress tester of five years, I've tested mattresses for all manner of purposes, including this one. You'll primarily need three things: temperature control for when things get hot and heavy in the most literal way; bounce, because overt sinking can really kill the vibe; and edge support, as the outer perimeter of the bed needs to be in a position to support you as you experiment with positions. Read on for the best options we’ve tested over the years.

Making Bedtime Sexier
Your mattress can't do all the hard work in supporting you during your fun. Your accessories can also make or break your experience (although you can try).
DreamCloud's the Bamboo Bed Frame and Headboard for $800: Just as I test mattresses, I also occasionally test bed frames. I've been massively impressed with this option, featuring a gorgeous wood stain and effortless Japanese joinery setup. More important, it's sturdy, stable, and quiet.
Buffy's Breeze Sheet Set for $160: When I asked WIRED sheets expert Nena Farrell what sheets she thought would be best for this topic, her first response was that there are plenty that she wouldn't recommend because they're too slippery. Traction is necessary, as you don't need to slip, fall, and have to explain in the emergency room what happened. The good news is that Buffy's Breeze sheet set uses cooling Oeko-Tex certified Tencel, which is grippy and hypoallergenic, and uses plant-based dyes.
Crescendo 2 Vibrator for $329: The Crescendo 2 is basically the vibrator version of a smart bed. It can be controlled via the app or the buttons on the side, and boasts six motors along its length that you can turn on and off via a range of preprogrammed vibrational settings. You also have the option to create your own. But we’ve tested even more options that you can check out in our Best Vibrators guide.
BedGear Flow Cuddle Curve Performance Pillow for $180: If you find yourself relying on pillows for a boost in certain positions but also need them to keep you supported during sleep, try the BedGear Flow Cuddle Curve Pillow. It’s our “best for chaotic sleepers” pick, given that it can support you in any sleep position—add on sex, and it’s got you there too. The air vents help you stay cool, and the washable cover makes cleanup easier. To see what other pillows we’ve tested and liked, head over to our guide on the Best Pillows.
