Join us 6 & 7 December,
for our 5th conference.
We like to update you on the program for this year’s conference that will take place on December 6 & 7 in Rotterdam, at the great location of BlueCity.
We are planning for another lovely edition, teaming up even more with the Berlin team and we definitely will want to have a special program this 5th edition of ThingsCon in the Netherlands.
We came a long way with getting Ethics in IoT on everyone’s agenda now, but we need to bring it in practice. Make sure to check our thematic framework for this year’s edition of the conference. It’s time for a system reboot.
Below you find our first confirmed speakers and session hosts for this year’s conference.
We look forward to welcoming you in Rotterdam!
Best regards,
Team ThingsCon; Dries, Iskander, Marcel, Max, Monique, Peter, Simon

It’s time for a system reboot
The Internet of Things (IoT) is maturing and has even been taken for granted in several industries. We’ve climbed the peaks of inflated expectations and are increasingly often encountering the undercurrent of organizations actively (re)designing their business and technology with fair and inclusive models to succeed in the data-driven economy.
At the same time, a darker, more concerning narrative of surveillance capitalism, weak security, and privacy lure in the clefts. Since its inception, ThingsCon has been an on- and offline environment providing a place to discuss issues within this space needed to be addressed and why.
Now, 5 years into ThingsCon, the need for responsible technology has entered the mainstream debate. We need ethical technology, but how? With the lines between IoT, AI, machine learning and algorithmic decision-making increasingly blurring it’s time to offer better approaches to the challenges of the 21st century: Don’t complain, suggest what’s better! In this spirit, going forward we will focus on exploring how connected devices can be made better, more responsible and more respectful of fundamental human rights.
At ThingsCon, we gather the finest practitioners; thinkers & tinkerers, thought leaders & researchers, designers & developers to discuss and show how we can make IoT work for everyone rather than a few, and build trustable and responsible connected technology.
Our first names for 2018
So we will have about 10 keynote talks and 25 sessions planned. Next to that we will have an even more interactive demo-market with not only companies showing their latest IoT, and some of the best student work, we will have some interesting installations that makes it possible to engage with.
