High Ground Design Conversation 2018

*Can't go this year, but is that ever a great meeting. It's terrific, but what is their organizational secret? It's got to be the quality of the hosts, such Kindly, thoughtful people. It's because you are just, inside their house. Where they live, among all their stuff. That's about as "unconference" as it can get.

Hello, High Grounders,

Some of you know all this but for the newcomers and to remind the old timers:

At the High Ground Design Conversation, the 20 or so participants are leading design thinkers in architecture, planning, industrial design, communications design, interaction design, design strategies, game design, new media, design history, criticism, curation and museum studies. This is the 22nd year of the event.

Sometimes called the “un-conference,” the conversation has no set theme. Each participant has seven minutes to present a manifesto, rant, proposal or incisive observation about an emergent or otherwise significant design issue – an opportunity to introduce formative ideas for feedback. Often participants talk about projects they are working on, including books, articles, lectures, exhibitions, courses and designs. This is followed by input from the group which can be intense, constructive, supportive, hilarious – or all of the above. In the final wrap-up, everyone sums up the connections they heard and their takeaways. The goal is that you leave with more than you brought to the conversation.
