Maker NOMCON in Santa Fe

It's hard to believe it, but we're nearly one month away from NOMCON, the inaugural Nation of Makers convening, June 9-10, 2018 in Santa Fe, NM!

We've been working behind the scenes to create a dynamic conference that gathers together leaders from the breadth of the maker movement to spark and increase connections across sectors, generate robust collaborations, set a research agenda for the U.S. maker movement, and promote the growth of an inclusive maker community.

In fact, we're weaving our theme of Intentional Inclusion throughout the entire conference. As such, we are proud to announce a community collaboration with We the Builders that celebrates the contributions and diverse identities of women and non-binary makers.

Here’s where you come in.

We’ll be creating a giant crowdsourced monument of Rosie the Riveter at this year’s NOMCON. The sculpture will stand six feet tall and be made up of thousands of 3D printed parts - and we need everyone in our network (no matter your gender identity) to help us print them in time to assemble it during NOMCON!

As a symbol, we realize the image of Rosie has a complex history, and we know that even when printed in a multitude of skin tones, she does not represent the identities of all of today’s makers. That’s why, in addition to asking everyone to contribute a 3D printed part to the community monument, we are also asking women and non-binary makers everywhere to help us reimagine Rosie and shape a new narrative with your own voices! Record a short video to share your story of empowerment and your vision for a new Rosie across social media at #wetherosies.

If you’re not a woman or non-binary maker, please print a part, and feel free to hold the camera for someone who is! Spaces can also host Print’n Share events to help bring this project to everyone in their local community - we have created a full marketing package available to customize here.

You can find all the project details and instructions on how to claim a part at wethebuilders.com.

With nearly 3,000 printed parts, and a goal of thousands of video submissions, this project will be not only monumental in size - but in reach! There's a role for everyone in the community. Will you join us in re-imagining Rosie?
