This has been an exciting year of victories. Despite the ongoing tumult in Washington, CEI seized important opportunities in 2017 – victories that were possible because of you.
For example, last June I stood in the Rose Garden with our founder, Fred Smith, and CEI scholars Myron Ebell and Chris Horner. And, I thought of you. The Paris Climate Treaty was defeated because of your ongoing support for CEI. It was a huge victory! Think about it. The well-funded environmental Left lost. You won.
Today as I write, I’m thinking about the last couple of years that CEI has spent educating members of Congress, agency officials, and the American public about the devastating consequences of Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency regulations, like the so-called “Clean Power Plan.” That rule would have made your energy costs spike for many years to come. But because of your ongoing support, CEI persisted, and President Trump heard us, stopping that dangerous plan in its tracks. Thank you.
But there’s more. Just this week, the Federal Communications Commission rolled-back the 2015 “net neutrality” regulations that would have put a straight-jacket on broadband Internet providers. These regulations have already slowed investment, and if they continued, would have limited your Internet choices. Thanks to your investment in CEI, we continue to look out for consumers and protect Internet freedom, and this harmful government overreach ended this week.
Bruce, there has clearly been a very real shift in momentum toward liberty and prosperity this year thanks to your support of CEI. But I still need you.
You see, for every policy victory this year, there are other organizations and people trying to stop the momentum. They want a big nanny state. They want more regulations. They believe the government needs to be right in the middle of your business! And, they want to silence us.
