The Artistic Director, Bruce Sterling, announces the eleventh edition of Share Prize, curated by Jasmina Tešanović, the Italian exhibition of electronic art, digital art and new media, organized by Share Festival.

Two hundred years ago this year, “Frankenstein” was first published. The author kept herself anonymous, so that no one would guess that she was a radical teenage feminist who had run off to Italy.
Victor Frankenstein is a bright Swiss college student with a private lab. Victor secretly hacks dead bodies and builds a giant. One dark night, Victor "infuses the spark of being” into his superhuman creation.
But “Frankenstein's Monster" never gets a name. He does have a mother — Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley — but he has never had any legal identity, not for two hundred years.
Illegal, unethical, penniless and not even human, he's the ultimate clandestine refugee. This Nameless One has no family, no friends and no legal papers. He’s a citizen of nowhere, lurching off the design table into a troubled, fragmented world of epic Greek mythic passions and torch-and-pitchfork mob riots.
The Nameless One wanders the globe. He listens and learns by spying on people. Often he does free favors, and even works hard for no pay. Yet despite all these conveniences, people never trust the Monster.
He exists; he grows ever bolder, stronger and more capable; but he can never really be one of us. When he “friends” people, the alien becomes even less human. He becomes a troll; he rants, rages, demands a female soul-mate, and plots cruel reprisals on innocent brides. Those who know him best are the ones who dread him worst.
Must the Modern Prometheus suffer for his gift of fire?
Must he be chased down with torches by an angry and panicking user-base?
Will Silicon Valley ever have a Hollywood happy ending?
SHARE FESTIVAL XIII is about the many powerful entities mankind has built, that are active among us, huge, strong, unloved, scary, mythic and Romantically tragic. They are alive! — but we are the children of Mary Shelley, and of Byron’s daughter Ada Lovelace.

An international panel of judges will short-list six nominees for the prize, who will be invited to exhibit at the customary Share Prize exhibition in Turin in May 2018.
The names of the short-listed finalists will be announced by the end of March 2018.

Quest’anno sono 200 anni che “Frankenstein” fu pubblicato per la prima volta. L’autrice ha mantenuto l’anonimato, in modo che nessuno potesse sospettare che si trattasse di una femminista, adolescente, radicale e scappata in Italia.
Victor Frankenstein è un brillante studente universitario svizzero con un laboratorio privato. Victor, viola segretamente cadaveri e costruisce un gigante. Una notte tenebrosa, Victor “infonde la scintilla dell’Essere” nella sua creatura sovrumana.
Ma “il Mostro di Frankenstein” rimane senza nome. Ha una madre - Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley - ma non ha mai avuto un’identità legittima, da duecento anni a questa parte.
Illegittimo, amorale, squattrinato e nemmeno umano, Frankenstein è per antonomasia il rifugiato clandestino. L’Innominato non ha famiglia, non ha amici e non ha documenti. E’ un cittadino di nessun luogo che è caduto dal tavolo da laboratorio e vaga barcollando in un mondo da mito greco, inquieto, frammentato da epiche passioni e pieno di feroci orde armate di forconi. L’Innominato vaga per il globo. Ascolta e impara spiando la gente. Fa spesso favori gratuiti e addirittura lavora duramente senza essere ricompensato. Nonostante tutti questi vantaggi, la gente non si fida del Mostro che esiste, che diventa sempre più sfacciato, più forte e più abile ma non sarà mai davvero uno di noi.
Quando “diventa amico” delle persone, l’alieno diventa persino meno umano. Diventa un Troll; perde le staffe, esige una anima gemella donna e trama rappresaglie crudeli su innocenti spose. Chi più lo conosce più lo teme.
Il Moderno Prometeo è costretto a soffrire per il dono del fuoco?
Deve essere cacciato con torce e forconi dalla collerica ed arrabbiata comunità della Rete?
La Silicon Valley avrà mai un lieto fine hollywoodiano?
SHARE FESTIVAL XIII edizione, si occuperà delle molte potenti entità che l’umanità ha costruito e che sono attive tra di noi, immense, forti, non amate, spaventose, mitiche e Romanticamente tragiche. Sono vive! – noi siamo i figli di Mary Shelley e della figlia di Byron, Ada Lovelace.

Una Giuria internazionale selezionerà 6 candidati al premio, che saranno invitati a partecipare alla consueta mostra, che si svolgerà a Torino a Maggio 2018.
Entro fine Marzo 2018 saranno resi noti i nomi degli artisti finalisti.
