The poster released just days ago teased it, but now the new “announcement” trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness has given us a menacing morsel of the wrath to come in J.J. Abrams’ flick.
“You think your world is safe. It is an illusion. A comforting lie told to protect you,” intones the dark voiceover, presumably from Trek newcomer and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch. “Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I have returned to have my vengeance.”
And that’s just the beginning. Perhaps in an attempt to make up for trolling nerds everywhere with a meager three-frame clip that he revealed on Conan, Abrams brings all sorts of action with this latest (actual) tease. Massive explosions on a volcano planet, Spock (Zachary Quinto) running around looking bad-ass, screaming from Enterprise’s crew, and Cumberbatch himself (whose character was rumored to be Khan but now maybe isn’t?) pointing a gun at someone (maybe Chris Pine’s Kirk?) – it’s all here, complete with a booming Inception-meets-Prometheus soundtrack.
Holy. Crap. Did anyone just get chills?
Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters May 17, 2013.
