After finding success on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Guild and Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, the actress, writer and producer rolled out an impressive roster of web series under her Geek & Sundry banner.
“None of my shows would ever get green-lit by a TV station or a cable network,” says Day in Wired’s video interview. “They just wouldn’t — they’re very, very niche.”
That’s just one secret to her success with online video. Elsewhere in the interview, she talks about finding an audience — which she’s done with shows like TableTop (hosted by Wil Wheaton), Sword & Laser (started by Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt) and her own The Flog — as well as building a lucrative brand and shifting from TV’s million-dollar budgets to internet video’s more modest production costs.
