An iconic monument to fuel consuming excess, the Hummer is now available as an electric vehicle.

Prindiville, the auto modification house built it, specializes in upgrading already-primo automobiles like Bentleys and Range Rovers by adding carbon-fiber panels and turbochargers. But now it's added a plug-in electric Hummer to its CV, albeit a shrunk-down version of the classic off-roader. Its Lithium-ion powered 72V drive system with its brushless motor will go 60 miles on a single charge, although no word on its ability to storm oil-rich Middle Eastern countries.

Prindiville is making a trial batch of 25 vehicles, each of which will carry a price tag just under $40,000. Buyers can pick between 15- and 18-inch wheels depending on how much off-roading or showboating they'll be doing. Inside, an LCD digital dash display shows a speedometer and gauges showing the remaining battery power. For entertainment, there's a Pioneer CD radio and MP3 in-car entertainment system with a slimline remote control. But you'll have to supply your own turret-mounted 50-cal or, more appropriately, chromed TruckNutz.
