Another week as come and gone, how are you all liking The Eyre Affair so far? Here's the discussion topic for this week:

Many, if not most, of the characters have really bizarre names. "Thursday Next" is probably one of the most nonsensical protagonist names I've ever seen. "Jack Schitt", need I say more? "Spike Stoker" is a vampire killer, an obvious reference to Dracula's Bram Stoker. "Braxton Hicks", I have not missed those. "Acheron Hades", I had to look this one up to get the reference, comes from Greek mythology where Acheron is "the river of pain, and was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld. In the Homeric poems the Acheron was described as a river of Hades," according to Wikipedia (Hades is the Greek god of the underworld). The list goes on. Do you feel like these comical character names take away from the story or add to it?
