On most Mondays I pick five posts from the previous week in the geoscience blogosphere that caught my eye. I limit it to just five because I want those who are not already plugged into this community to get a manageable sampling of the awesome stuff out there.
Here's my list for October 24-30, 2011.
Simon Wellings of the Metageologist shares the results of some interesting 'field work'.
Ryan Anderson from __*Martian Chronicles *__compiles the funnier planetary science-themed #Occupy parodies.
Matt Hall from Agile* has a fascinating post about how seismologists see time series.
Chris Rowan is using his Tumblr site Geotweeps Discuss ... to summarize interesting conversations that emerge from geoscientists interacting on Twitter. There were two big discussions this past week: Meagan Pollock asked about how social media might be used in undergrad research and there was a discussion I was very involved in about whether or not to use your blog to post unpublished data/results. These summaries are a superb way to quickly see what people are thinking about different topics, well done Chris!
Finally, Anne Jefferson of Highly Allochthonous is asking those who want a bit of group motivation to get some writing done (papers, proposals, thesis chapters, assignments, blog posts, anything really) to join her in setting goals and getting it done by December 4th. Check out the details and see who is participating (me included) in the comment thread.
