In Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the hellion on two flaming wheels will be a much more nightmarish figure than in the original movie based on the Marvel Comics character.

The first images from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance offer a flash of the movie's darker vision for the Marvel Comics character.

Can you smell the brimstone? Probably not. The images, viewable in the gallery above, don't really do justice to the face-melting footage screened last week at Comic-Con International. But what could, really? The hard-core horror tone of the upcoming movie, and the death-defying visuals captured by daredevil directing team Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, aka Neveldine/Taylor, would probably lay waste to computer screens.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, starring Nic Cage as the cursed biker with the flaming skull and Idris Elba as a motorcycle-riding monk, is slated for release Feb. 17, 2012.
