Each Monday I pick five posts from the previous week in the geoscience blogosphere that caught my eye. I limit it to just five because I want those who are not already plugged into this community to get a manageable sampling of the awesome stuff out there.
Here is my list for June 20-26, 2011:
- Congratulations to Anne Jefferson of Highly Allochthonous for taking 2nd place in the 3 Quarks Daily science blogging contest for her superb post 'Levees and the Illusion of Flood Control.'
- Erik Klemetti of Eruptions discusses the recent article in AGU's Eos news publication by Gerlach crushing the volcanoes-erupt-more-CO2-than-humans myth. In fact, it's not even close.
- Matt and Evan over at Agile* continue to innovate -- this week they talk about the geoscience app for mobile devices they created.
- Dana Hunter of En Tequila Es Verdad explains the seduction of subduction. Awesome.
- Finally, this article from Science News (not a blog, I know) by Alexandra Witze about the Afar rift zone in east Africa is a spectacular read.
Bonus: Make sure to check out the weekly round-up of geo-related links at Highly Allochthonous every week -- always good stuff in there.
* This digest is what catches my eye throughout the week. With scores of posts a week from geoscience blogs I'm sure to miss a lot. Don't hesitate to let me know about other great posts in the geoblogosphere via Twitter, e-mail, or in the comment thread.
