Each Monday I pick five posts from the previous week in the geoscience blogosphere that caught my eye. I limit it to just five because I want those who are not already plugged into this community to get a manageable sampling of the awesome stuff out there.
Here is my list for November 8-14, 2010:
- Callan Bentley of Mountain Beltway has a fantastic summary (with lots of annotated photos) of a field trip in Turkey to investigate subduction zone rocks.
- Ryan Anderson of Martian Chronicles weighs in on the balloon boy mystery missile meme that spread through the media last week. I especially like the conspiracy theory-laden first comment. Sigh.
- Jessica Ball of Magma Cum Laude writes an extremely useful post about the most common mistakes seen in reporting of volcanic eruptions. Bookmark this, it's very well done.
- Kyle House of Geologic Froth shares an image of the "Barbie Fan" in thermal emissivity mode. Wow.
- In case you missed the announcement last month, check out the new geoscience blogging network at the American Geophysical Union (AGU), featuring Mountain Beltway, Magma Cum Laude, The Landslide Blog, Martian Chronicles, Outdoor Science, Terra Central, and Dan's Wild Science Journal. I'm very excited to follow some of my long-time favorites at their new home.
Enjoy!
* This digest is what catches my eye throughout the week. With scores of posts a week from geoscience blogs I'm sure to miss a lot. Don't hesitate to let me know about other great posts in the geoblogosphere via Twitter, e-mail, or in the comment thread.
