Minecraft creator Notch, or Markus Persson as his grandma calls him, has released a video of the new biomes feature that's coming in the forthcoming Halloween patch for the sandbox title.
Biomes are a fancy name for different climatic regions, and the patch will introduce a number of different terrain types to the game. There'll be rainforest, swamp, seasonal forest, forest, savanna, woods, taiga, desert, grassy desert and tundra. There'll also be a new "Hell" dimension.
The video shows a flyover of a biome-equipped game world, which Notch describes as "rainforesttemperaterainforestseasonalforestforestsavannashrublandtaigadesertgrassdesert
icedeserttundra." It looks like it's not just snow that will differentiate separate areas – tree and grass types can change too.
The music in the video is fantastic, too. It was written by C418, who also wrote a number of pieces that can be heard in the game.
