Indie developer 5th Cell's past projects include innovative word-based puzzlers and isometric real-time strategy games. So, naturally, the company's next game is a third-person shooter.
Hybrid, announced Friday by the Scribblenauts and Lock's Quest creator, will hit Xbox Live Arcade at some point in 2011.
The teaser trailer above hints at a two-sided conflict in a futuristic atmosphere. With a slogan like "Choose this day whom you will serve," it seems like players will get to pick sides in some hot man-on-alien combat.
The game's official site depicts two sides: the Paladins, represented by military dogtags, and the Variants, reflected with an alien crystal. A journal entry for the Paladins makes mention of "actual humans," implying that the army is detached from humanity in some way. On the other side, a Variant laments what he describes as "pity for a human," also alluding to a hunt for something or somebody.
I'm guessing that your character is some sort of Paladin/Variant "hybrid" who has to choose his allegiances accordingly. But who knows? After all, 5th Cell has done some crazy things.
