Freakish new images from The Wolfman flick indicate Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro got put through the wringer in Universal Pictures' remake of the horror classic.
The Wolfman co-stars capable actors including Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving, but it's Del Toro's cursed character (pictured above) that endures the bulk of abuse. A fresh batch of production stills released this week hint at a torturous path taken by gentlemanly Lawrence Talbot as he undergoes a lupine makover and turns into Blackmoor forest's most wanted flesh-ripper.
Delayed from its original November release due to extravagant visual effects, this retooling of Universal's 1940 monster classic is now being hammered into shape by director Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III) for a Feb. 12, 2010, opening.
The first Wolfman trailer hit the web this week, loaded with old-fashioned gothic touches: gloomy skies, urgent whispers in dank hallways, foreboding forests and, finally, a cavalcade of beastly appendages, courtesy of six-time Oscar-winning special effects artist Rick Baker.
Del Toro proved his acting chops could bring moviegoers to tears in films like Traffic, 21 Grams and Che. Does he have what it takes to scare the living daylights out of horror fans? Weigh in below.
