This Wednesday, April 1, will see the Xbox Live Arcade launch of Ska Studios' cryptically-named, 2-D, side-scrolling, three-player beat-em-up The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai.

The game, which will run $10 on release, is something of a cross between Alien Hominid, Shinobi and MadWorld. Though it may sound like a strange combination, once you've seen the game in action, it will make much more sense -- and hopefully you'll be as excited for it as I am.

What's more, TD:DS has one of the more novel (read: bizarre) plotlines we've seen:

An undead samurai dishwasher in a dystopian universe is on a quest for revenge against the evil cyborg army. To dispatch hordes of zombies, cyborgs, and robots, the Dishwasher has at his fingertips a devastating array of attacks using ancient blades, disturbing machinery, and screen-obliterating Dish Magic. Compete with the rest of the world in a variety of speed run and high score challenges to become the most formidable Dishwasher yet!

As an aside, those of you wondering how exactly developers craft these sorts of XBLA titles should check out Building XNA 2.0 Games. It's a thick tome (450 pages) authored by Ska Studios' single developer, James Silva, that he describes as detailing "pretty much everything I did when making The Dishwasher so that others could benefit from the experience."
