If The Sims series has had one major flaw, it's the lack of an overall purpose. Enjoying the freedom of a virtual sandbox is enjoyable until you realize you're simply spinning your wheels.

EA has seemingly recognized this and added the "Lifetime Wishes" game mechanic to the upcoming Sims 3. The company issued the first official revelation of the feature earlier today, and it explains the concept nicely:

Lifetime
Wishes are long-term goals for players to focus their Sims towards if they prefer a little more direction. Your Sims are able to choose a Lifetime Wish based on their traits. Completing a Lifetime Wish may require your Sims to master certain skills, reach the top of a career, become a local celebrity, or perhaps even a heartbreaker. By completing a Lifetime Wish, your Sims will earn enough Lifetime Happiness points to choose from a variety of whacky
Sims objects and powerful traits like Steel Bladder, Legendary Host or the
Teleportation Pad.

Becoming a chef or a rockstar is impressive, sure, but what really intrigues me about the concept is the picture attached to the top of this post. It was sent along with the official announcement along with a handful of other screens depicting the various Wishes.

The title on this one? "Super Robot Cross Breeder." I understand the "robots" bit and I grasp the "cross breeding" concept, but when you put them all together like that it makes me wonder exactly what that creepy guy does in his lab all day.
