After all the recent rumors, Electronic Arts has finally made the Army of Two sequel official: Army of Two: The 40th Day is coming this Winter.

The plot for the second entry in the series in summary:

A carefully orchestrated series of mysterious catastrophes is dragging
Shanghai to the brink of ruin, and now the Army of Two must fight their way through ravaged city districts as they try to beat the odds and uncover the secret of the 40th Day.

Interestingly, EA's announcement makes absolutely no mention of the return of the widely-mocked, but heavily promoted weapons customization feature from the first game. I truly hope they haven't ditched the option to coat an AK-47 in platinum and diamonds -- that was like "My Little Pony" with heavy phallic undertones.

The game is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and PSP platforms.
