
Neither virtual crime nor zombified Nazis can top the appeal of Nintendo's iconic characters, as Mario Kart Wii lands the top spot on the just-released global sales ranking chart for 2008.
Sales data from chart tracking firms NPD, Enterbrain and GfK Chart-Track have been consolidated to offer the top selling games from around the globe during the last year:
- Mario Kart Wii -- 8.94 million
- Wii Fit -- 8.31 million
- Grand Theft Auto IV -- 7.29 million
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl -- 6.32 million
- Call of Duty: World at War -- 5.89 million
Additionally, the compiled data also shows an 11 percent overall growth in game sales during 2008, despite the ongoing economic problems felt throughout the major world markets.
