Netbooks are so trendy that an unexpected manufacturer is joining in on the fun: Epson.
That's right -- Epson. Primarily a printer manufacturer. Making a netbook.
Still awake? Keep your eyes open a bit longer. The company's Japanese web site teases a silhouette of a netbook along with its specifications. Hold your breath:
- CPU: 1.6GHz Intel Atom
- Display: 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixels
- RAM: 1GB
- Storage: 160GB HDD
- Operating System: Windows XP SP3
- Connectivity: Ethernet, 802.11b/g WiFi
- Chipset: Intel 945GSE Express

Yup. For the most part, the same guts as most existing netbooks. Only it's from a company that specializes in printers. I wonder why the netbook's a silhouette? Liliputing's Brad Linder thinks it's because Epson hasn't finished the case design yet. I think it's Epson's sad attempt to copy Apple's mystery product campaign to generate some buzz. Compare Epson's teaser ad to Apple's notebook invitation (pictured to the right) and you'll get a clear idea of whose marketing team gets paid more.
Don't pull out your credit card just yet: Epson hasn't announced details on pricing or ship date.
