A crystal-clear Blu-ray picture isn’t always ideal.
Just ask Gerry Anderson, creator of ’60s sci-fi puppet show Thunderbirds, who’s not exactly excited to see his classic series presented in the high-def format.
"I’m very much against Blu-ray because it produces such superb pictures that people can see the wires that I tried for so many years to get rid of," Anderson told BBC News. "Now they’re going to sing out like mad."
The Blu-ray release comes as the new animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, which bases aspects of its 3-D character design on the look of Thunderbirds‘ "Supermarionation" puppets, takes off on Cartoon Network.
To commemorate the Thunderbirds release, the BBC strung up a Q&A with Anderson. In the interview, Anderson — the producer behind the concepts and much of the technology behind genre classics like Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, UFO, Space: 1999 and Terrahawks — moves his bottom jaw up and down on topics ranging from the disastrous live-action Thunderbirds movie (which he had nothing to do with) to Team America, the salty-mouthed tribute to his classic puppet show by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
Most importantly for fans of Thunderbirds, Anderson all but confirmed a new CGI-based remake is en route: "I have be careful about this, but I think there will be a new series and I will be involved."
