The folks at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and MGM Home Entertainment are lending classic genre DVD titles to the fight against breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation works to raise awareness with Hollywood by offering 15 DVD titles in special pink packaging for $14.98.
While the promotion -- now in its second year -- relied on romantic comedies in the past, this year's DVDs for the Cure is adding the classic genre comedy, Princess Bride, and the horror love story, Edward Scissorhands, to the lineup.
Last year’s campaign sold nearly 400,000 units, and the studios will donate 50 cents from each sale this year to the cause -- with a minimum guaranteed donation of $100,000.
Does this have a whole lot to do with the normal geek-friendly news we all enjoy here everyday? Perhaps not. But, this reporter's Mom beat breast cancer after battling through a double mastectomy. So, if you have a problem with this post, you're welcome to show up here any Monday, Wednesday or Friday night to discuss it with the blogger in person.
