Goats, Cheese, Canada: Toronto's Indie Games

Want to play some indie games themed on cheese?

The Toronto Game Jam (TOJam) indie fest is done for this year — it was held back in May — but all the games that were produced during the 3-day event are still available for download, or played directly in-browser if flash-based.

What should you expect from the 34 games on offer? All entries were required to include: A cheese theme, an image of a goat on a pole, and a true bit of Canadiana, the sound made by the Toronto subway doors as they close.

The gold winning game was the appropriately titled a game about bouncing — embedded is a trailer for the game — that puts you in control of a ball that, yes, bounces around the screen, while you try to grab on to bumpers and avoid missiles.

If you’re not seeing the event’s criteria in that entry — they are often quite subtle — you can’t go wrong with Goats Amoré. As the game’s info page informs us, "you are a lonely piece of cheese chasing a goat." Or how about Seas of Cheese, a platformer you control with the Rock Band drum kit.
