Indie Filmmakers Set to Remake Manos (Sans Torgo?)

On the heels of the announcements that indie filmmakers were looking to remake Ed Wood’s Plan 9 From Outer Space, another group of film buffs-turned-filmmakers is looking to remake one of Plan 9’s rivals for "worst movie of all time" — Manos: The Hands of Fate.

Once lost, Manos returned to the public eye through its appearance on Mystery Science Theater 3000 (see embedded clip). The image of Torgo stumbling or molesting his way across the screen is now as iconic for movie nuts as the Death Star battle from Star Wars. Well, maybe not.

Manos spawned a stage show last fall. Now, Staticosche Productions is developing a remake that hopes to transform the disaster of a movie into something genuinely scary — not just scary to watch. There’s no solid word yet on whether The Master will approve of Torgo’s return. You can catch the teaser trailers here.
