DC Comics will draw up a prequel to J.J. Abrams' upcoming TV series Fringe, according to USA Today.
There's no word on artists yet, but comic fandom rumors say DC will put one of its A-list writers on the Abrams gig.
The Fringe comic would hit newsstands in August and would help to set up the series for hard-core fans about a month before Fringe arrives on Fox in September. It's a much more direct marketing strategy than the elaborate viral campaigns Abrams mounted for Cloverfield and Lost -- and the slow, ongoing roll-out for his Star Trek movie.
