A panel of celebrity judges has chosen a spot featuring a long-time Republican air force veteran who supports Barack Obama as the winning entry in MoveOn.org's "Obama in 30 Seconds" television ad contest.

One of the ad's most obvious ploys is its projection of Obama as a strong, patriotic leader who's supported by a former member of the armed services, an image that seeks to mirror John McCain's status as a patriotic veteran.
MoveOn.org says that it plans on spending $200,000 to run the ad on cable and network television in the key battleground states of Colorado, Ohio and Wisconsin in November.
David Gaw and Lance Mungia of Monrovia, California produced the winning entry, and the veteran is former Staff Sergeant US Air Force John Weiler.
Mungia said that he met Weiler at an Obama supporter meeting in Pasadena. Weiler was just one of several people from across party lines attending the event.
More than 5.5 million votes were cast for more than 1,100 ads submitted to the contest. MoveOn said that the entries used puppets, cartoons, stop-motion photography, musicals, and children's drawings to make their points.
The final panel of judges included actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, director Oliver stone, musician John Legend and author Naomi Wolf and Stanford Law Professor Larry Lessig, among others.
The winners of other categories of the competition can be viewed here. Those categories include: The People's Choice; The Funniest Ad; Most Original Ad; and Best Positive Message.
