Mozilla has decided to put out a second release candidate of Firefox 3 before the browser hits 1.0 status. The announcement comes from a recent Firefox status meeting and, according to the note, RC2 is tentatively scheduled for early June.
Firefox 3 RC2 will fix a couple dozen bugs including performance issues and some lingering crashing problems. Most of the fixes are already in the Firefox trunk so the turnaround time for RC 2 should be pretty quick.
If everything goes according to plan, RC 2 arrive around June 6. Once that build has been thoroughly tested Mozilla plans to evaluate whether or not a third RC release is necessary. If not, RC2 will become Firefox 3.
We'll be sure to keep you posted as we near the official release of Firefox 3.
