Five years ago this month, The Matrix Reloaded earned Larry and Andy Wachowski a place in box office record books when their sci-fi sequel took in $92 million to become the eighth biggest May opening in history.
This weekend, Speed Racer, the brothers' big-budget experiment in Anime-fueled action, stalled big time, making just $20.2 million during its first three days in theaters. The winner and still champion: Iron Man, which blew past *Racer * with a whopping $50 million. Total Iron Man take in two weeks in: $177 million.
Ashton Kutcher's romantic comedy What Happens in Vegas finished just behind Racer, taking in an estimated $20 million.
