11-Year-Old Snags Speed Racer Exclusives

At the Hollywood premiere of Speed Racer last month, an enterprising 11-year-old named Jennifer Smart cornered Emile Hirsch, Matthew Fox and child actor Paulie Litt on the red carpet.

Besides chatting with the film’s stars, Jennifer also interviewed a dentist (this being L.A., he’s pitching a TV pilot between teeth cleanings).

Wired.com checked in with the young reporter to learn more about her career as a celebrity journalist.

Wired: When did you decide to get into show business?

Jennifer Smart: I don’t know. I’ve been on the radio for six years and have now done about 55 red carpets and special events. I had a site on YouTube before, but they deleted things and could not recover our password, according to Daddy.

Wired: Do you get nervous when you talk to stars like Matthew Fox?

Smart: No. It’s hard to get nervous when you don’t really know who they are. I was nervous with Keira Knightley and Hayden Christensen and younger stars closer to my age group.

Wired: Is your dad your cameraman?

Smart: Mom, Dad or our friend Mark. It has been really crowded lately and everyone is starting to elbow us.

Wired:  What advice do you have for other kids who want to do what you do?

Smart: Get a good friend. Mine was radio host David Lawrence.
