Steve Jurvetson is the one of the leading venture capitalists in Silicon Valley but what he really wants to do is shoot rockets. As one of the early leaders of Hotmail, Jurvetson earned a reputation for being a visionary in tech and business, but by watching his TED conference video, a good part of it seems to come from unabridged enthusiasm and the need for danger. Those are two things that we can’t get enough of here at the Gadget Lab.
The TED Conference is the annual ‘meeting of the minds’ event where famous and not too-famous people who are influential, innovative, and interesting talk about ideas that can make a positive influence on society.
But the best parts of the video are his pictures of the rockets and the small glimpse into his group expeditions in Black Rock. Like a latter-day Homer Hickam, he goes over basic experiments such as using baking soda and vinegar to boost a mini-rocket (see above), crashing rockets with attached video cameras, and using experimental motors.
Jurvetson keeps his whole collection of rocket pictures on his Flickr page right here, and you can check the video after the jump.
