The Google Election ’08 team has asked National Journals Political Correspondent Jim Barnes to provide some analysis to illustrate the demographic trends at work in Pennsylvania, as its populace go to the polls today. Though unlikely, the highly-anticipated April 22 Democratic presidential primary could potentially end the months of excruciating competition between New York senator Hillary Clinton and Illinois senator Barack Obama.

Google’s mapped the demographic data into an embeddable map, and provided some insights from Barnes on its blog. On the map, you can see, county by county, the distribution of 18 to 35 to 65+ year olds and their registered party affiliation. Or you can view the Pennsylvania populace by religious affiliation or racial and ethnic background.

The maps are updated as election results roll in. Though there’s no way here to provide any definitive associations between the data, it’s still an interesting graphical way to ponder and speculate over how the votes for the senators broke down as you listen to the pundits on the telly.
