YouTube will be jumping into the live streaming video market later this year. Or at least that's the plan according to YouTube co-founder, Steve Chen, who recently told video blogger Sarah Meyers, that "live video is just something that we've always wanted to do, we've never had the resources to do it correctly."
Although YouTube may well be the last video sharing site on the block to add live content (even Yahoo has a live video offering), there's no doubt that when the king of the online video embraces live streaming at least some of the smaller players will go the way of the Dodo.
Still, 24-7 streaming shows like JustinTV and other things that come to mind at the mention of live video, haven't exactly been a hit outside the limited uber-geek audience.
Of course the potential of a YouTube live video streaming service goes far beyond 24-7 video shows. It's not hard to imagine something similar being used as a video conferencing app within Google Apps, or perhaps even adding online video-chat to gTalk.
