Google is gearing up for another Summer of Code, the company's program funds college students looking to write open source software during their summer vacations.

Google says the goal is to “increase the world's supply of open source software while providing young programmers inspiring, meaningful summer jobs.” It's also not a bad way to get noticed if you're a student looking for a future position at Google.

If you'd like to participate in this year's Summer of Code, now is a good time to start getting ready. Applications for students open March 24 and close March 31 (organizations can apply between March 3 and March 12). The actual Summer of Code events run from May 26 through August 18.

More details can be found on the Google Summer of Code page.
