My friend and former Wired News colleague Brad Kingis writing an article about yesterday's big synthetic biology news that Craig Venter and his colleagues built a genome from scratch. It's not King's beat, so he put out a query on ProfNet, which is a handy resource for reporters looking for sources. He got an unexpected response. From the Creation Museum. This is what they said:

If you want to have a contrarian opinion on this issue, about why this is not a good thing and should not be pursued, we represent the Creation Museum and its scientists, who take a literal view of the biblical account of creation. They discount this synthetic creation of life, and don’t believe it will be possible for humans to ever fully create life. They are available if you want to be able to present all sides of the issue in your article.

My question is: If only God can create life, why not encourage the scientists to continue their futile pursuit and celebrate with many press releases when they fail?
