As a former CNET drone, folks have been asking me about the slowly unraveling GameSpot fiasco. I can honestly say I was never subjected to pay-for-play journalism there, but it was rumored to exist in silos other than the one I worked in.
And it's about the only thing I can think of to explain a piece as lame as the review section's purported smackdown of the new 80GB Zune vs. the new iPod Classic. The Zune, surprisingly, wins in four out of the five categories evaluated. But total up the scores and -- heavens to betsy! -- it's a tie.
If a boxing match got scored like this, the judges would never make it out of the arena.
