MacWorld 2008 isn't being held the same week as CES 2008, so Mr. Jobs won't get to deliver another silver-trimmed kick in the nuts to the entire consumer electronics industry this time around. Speculation over what will come at the January bash, however, is getting heated.
Following below are 5 forward-looking statements about Apple, pulled out of my hat. I'm not really an Apple man — you can do better. We'll send a generic iPod clone (OMG $99 value!) to anyone who comes up with a genuinely accurate, detailed prediction for MacWorld 2008 in the comments.
__
1. The MacBook Mini__
Apple will announce an flash-based subnotebook at MacWorld. Not a
UMPC: think of the Eee's simple utility wedded to the Nokia Internet
Tablet's general awesomeness, but with that Apple spit and polish.
__
2. Apple Gear__
Apparel sold at the Apple store. T-shirts and flight jackets, that sort of thing. No turtleneck jokes, please.
__
3. The Mac Touch__
Apple will announce a Mobile Internet Device. Yes, with Intel lurking in the wings. They won't call it that — it'll just look like a giant iPod Touch — but that's what it will be.
__
4. A 3G iPhone.__
Yeah, let's go out on a limb here. Word is actually that it'll come later than MacWorld, but there you go.
__
5. New Apple TV.__
It'll have a new name, an optical drive, and more storage, but will still be tethered to iTunes.
Pictured above is one of my fantasy gadgets, realized in Photoshop alone: the Mac Nano, a sub-$500 Apple Mac that's as small as an Apple TV but runs OSX out the can.
