An application to trademark "Dreamcast" sparked rumors and hopes that Sega was considering resurrecting the platform, but the company has come forward to say they have no intention of doing so.

Sega of America's PR chief Charlie Scibetta told GameDaily that Sega is quite happy being "platform agnostic" and "has no plans to get back into the console business."

Scibetta further explained that Sega's strategy of abandoning hardware to concentrate on software has worked well for the company thus far, elevating them to "#6 in terms of our market share by units among third-party publishers."

Sad, but not really unexpected. Sega has everything to lose and nothing to gain by reentering the hardware market at this point.
