Budget carrier JetBlue promises to offer free, if limited, WiFi access on some planes starting this month. The service, offered through a partnership with Yahoo and RIM, will allow laptop users to access certain Yahoo services, including mail and IM. Owners of a Blackberry 8820 or 8320 model can get their messages that way.
Service starts next week on the New York to San Francisco run. No specifics yet on when it will be expanded to other flights. And don't expect open access anytime soon -- JetBlue says there's not enough bandwidth.
