Connoisseurs of panic and cluelessness will recall 2007 partly as the year the U.K. went batty over the supposed dangers of WiFi, with thinly sourced news reports proliferating ideas that WiFi signals could be responsible for various ailments and leading credulous parents to storm schools with demands that 802.11 gear be immediately removed.
The erstwhile BBC, which aired a hour-long special report that helped stoke the non-crisis, is now acknowledging that it may have erred by not giving more than token attention to the vast majority of scientists who aren't the least bit worried about WiFi. Stern discussions are planned.
