Imagine Lego, except every brick does something awesome such as play MP3s, shoot pictures, calculate its own location with GPS, measure acceleration, or hook up to a WiFi network? Bug Labs is creating just such a system, where you can create your own frankengadget by snapping tiny modular bricks onto the core "BugBase" unit.
Powered by Linux and glued together with IP, at the system's core is a framework for controlling and talking to any peripheral imaginable, so long as it comes in a BugBase-compatible version. Manufacturers can already use the open-source system for prototyping, but I'd love to see a miniaturized consumer-targeted kit.
