Leopard Compatible Adobe Lightroom Coming Mid November

As we mentioned yesterday, not all Adobe applications work on Apple's new OS X 10.5 and while Adobe hasn't released much information regarding updates, the Lightroom team has announced that a new version addressing the Leopard incompatibilities should arrive "mid November."

The current shipping version of Lightroom, v1.2, has a number of issues that prevent it from working completely on Leopard. The following list from the Lightroom blog highlights areas where you may encounter problems with Lightroom 1.2 on Leopard:

• The Print module may not load
• The Import dialog and other dialogs can “disappear” below Lightroom's main window. The dialog can be retrieved by switching to another application and then returning to Lightroom.
• Lightroom's web module may not provide a visual update after a setting is changed
• The left-side panels in the Develop module may not display properly. Resizing or closing/opening the panels will correct the issue.
• The interaction between Leopard's Time Machine and Lightroom's catalog files is unknown at this time. Running Time Machine backup or restore operations while Lightroom is in use is not recommended until more information can be obtained

Naturally if you encounter other problems, Adobe wants to hear about them. You can leave a comment on the Lightroom blog post and there's always the Lightroom Forums if you'd like to get a better idea of what Mac users are experiencing in Leopard.

Last night I bit the bullet and installed Lightroom. It's usable for the most part, but given the amount of data I have stored in Lightroom, which would potentially be at risk, I don't think I'll be using it until an update arrives — YMMV.
