Intel's latest developer forum saw no Viiv action. It is, in the Inquirer's words, "one of the Intel 'disappeared.'" Perhaps Viiv will eventually be found in a barrel of creosote in the sewers under the Plaza de Mayo.
Me, I can't even remember what this branding sticker was supposed to mean. Wasn't it about trying to sell DRM as a lifestyle choice?
My recollection is that it was like Centrino, but instead of referring to solid spec facts it referred to vaporous lifestyle things. So Centrino would mean it had a DirectX 7 video card, or whatever, but Viiv meant that you could watch cool DRM movies on it. Or something like that. Hold on, let's ask Wikipedia.
I
love the word "ostensibly" added by the editor, as if just coming out and saying "is an" would be too much a capitulation to PR bullshit.
"Apparently" or "Allegedly" would be too snarky to live, but ostensibly does the job for a technology whose selling point was how it limited, rather than expanded, consumer choice.
Anyway, it suffices to say that any "technology" wherein ESPN or
Movielink is a primary partner probably isn't a technology at all. Bye,
Viiv. It was lovely not knowing you.
