Steampunk fan (and Maker) Jake, of the splendidly named blog "Jake of All Trades", brings us a repurposed Spy Video Car, an already excellent toy which has a transmitting infrared camera and LCD eyepiece.
The Spy Cam LED headset uses standard video components, and even has an on board PAL/NTSC decoder, so it's possible to hook the display up to a media device (anything that outputs composite video) without soldering. Americans will need to pop the case open to switch to NTSC, which involves removing a resistor. The only tricky bit is wiring the battery pack, but there's nothing to break there. The headset is available separately, at just $20, so this is probably the cheapest way ever to dork yourself out as a Cyborg.
