Japanese carrier KDDI has revealed a new handset that solves that whole My Husband Looks Like Such a Dork Wearing His Bluetooth Headset All the Time problem by bypassing the ears all together. The A1407PT, made by Pantech, will transmit sounds via bone conduction--press the speaker to your skull just behind or under the ear, and you'll hear everything will near-perfect clarity, no matter how noisy the environment.
KDDI is apparently pitching the thing mainly at construction workers and other tranquility-deprived niches. It costs the equivalent of $165, which also gets you a 2.4-inch screen, 1.3-megapixel camera and not much else.
