Yesterday we told you about the new, four strong Blu-ray line up from Sony. What we didn't know then was that the Japanese giant plans to sell only Blu-ray players from now on, dropping DVD from its range.
That's right. Not HD-DVD, but good ol' regular DVDs. While pushing forward with new technology is all right with us, DVDs still count for a pretty significant part of the home entertainment market. This could be considered a risky step (Blu-ray might lose out to HD-DVD) or a smart move (pushing the market forward).
Of course, with Sony being the international, multi-limbed behemoth it is, don't expect to see any forward thinking coming to other markets. Music, for instance. Imagine for a second that Sony decided to stop selling CDs and went with a download-only policy. Yeah, right (cough)ATRAC(cough).
